Evolution Korea Until recently the Korean scientific community avoided engaging with creationists, afraid that it could boost the credibility of the group. But silence is no any longer an option. The STR has been fighting to eliminate evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestral bird. This is just one aspect of the way in which the development paradigm has changed. What is Evolution? Evolution is a concept in science that explains changes in genetic characteristics over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adjust to their environment, which may result in changes to genes or whole genomes. Over many generations, these changes can result in the creation of new species. The most popular theory of evolution is called natural selection, which explains the process that allows those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more often than those with disadvantageous characteristics. This variation in reproduction could eventually lead to the creation and evolution of new species. The term “evolution”, which comes from Latin for revealing or unrolling has been used in a variety of different ways as the concept has changed in both science and elsewhere. Early evolutionists, such as Jean Baptiste de Lamarck and Erasmus Darwin (Charles's grandfather) believed that the existing species evolved into new species in a predetermined fashion. Etienne Geoffroy St.Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist disciple who coined the term “transmutation” to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student. Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits to increase their chances of survival or conceiving offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can lead a population to develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. Such a change in gene frequencies is known as natural selection and is the primary driver behind evolutionary changes. However non-genetic changes like the increase in muscle mass from exercise or diet cannot be considered examples of evolution because they are not inherited by the next generation. Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and a multitude of scientific tests however, creationists have taken advantage of the idea that the theory is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their fight to remove evolution from high-school textbooks which includes the removal of references to the evolutionary roots of humans, as well as the Archaeopteryx feathered dinosaur believed to be an ancestral bird's parent. Why is Evolution Important? Evolution explains the origins of Earth and all living species. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists understand how living things work and develop. Evolution also reveals the relationships between species. Scientists study evolution in order to better comprehend nature and make important discoveries like new drugs. The evidence for evolution is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that can explain so much about the universe as well as life on earth, and it has been thoroughly tested and confirmed over many years. Many people, including religious leaders, believe in the theory of evolution as a scientific fact. It is crucial to keep in mind that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs as it only deals with physical objects, events, and processes. In reality many religious individuals have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with evolutionary theory. For instance some Christians believe that God created the universe through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral lineage with other animals. It is crucial that science educators advocate for teaching evolution. Unfortunately, in some countries around the world the anti-evolution movement is growing. In the United States some states have taken steps to limit teaching evolution. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise (STR), an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research is urging the elimination of textbook content about the evolution of horses as well as the Avian ancestral Archaeopteryx. Although these are alarming developments, it is also important to keep in mind that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide range of sources, such as fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists. The vast majority of scientists believe in the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support are diverse. Certain scientists study evolution in order to discover practical solutions such as developing new medicines, while others do so to improve the lives of animals and plant species, usually for the benefit humans. Some scientists are just curious, while others have a strong religious belief in God. What is Creationism? Creationists believe that God created everything in the universe. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists are generally divided into two groups: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists. The YECs are the best known type of creationist, and they believe that God created the world exactly as described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the six days of creation is true and that the universe and the life on Earth began only recently. OECs might not be as popular, but their beliefs are just as fierce as the YECs. OECs believe that the universe and life on Earth are billions of years old, and they believe that evolution is an untruth. Both forms of creationism reject the notion that scientific principles like natural selection and abiogenesis are able to explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible, because it requires miracles. The pioneers of modern scientific thought shunned miracles because they feared they could lose their credibility. Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary and also special creation. They call their view “theistic evolution.” This is also referred to as “continuous evolutionism” or the “evolution of the created species.” In this belief system, God creates the original species, and then allows them to evolve over time. These evolutionary changes will eventually produce new species that are similar to the original. Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the entire universe in one event known as the Great Flood. They believe that the original species were created at the same time and that they evolved gradually afterward. They also reject the idea of abiogenesis, and argue that the creation of self-replicating organisms from nonliving matter is impossible. In general, the creationists are opposed to the teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional organizations such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view and so do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow evolution and creationism to be included in their curriculum. What exactly is Creationism in Korea? When people think of the concept of creationism, many of them think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolutionist group. The publishers of high school textbooks announced last week that they would remove references to evolution from their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body which is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR), has led this campaign. STR has secured its first victory by taking away examples of the evolution of the horse as well as an avian ancestor called the Archeopteryx from textbooks. 에볼루션 슬롯게임 is to remove portions of Darwin's notorious finch-research and also on human evolution. STR claims that it has the support of 4,000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it believes is the “atheist materialism” that reflects a hopeless worldview for students. It also aims to counteract the influence of American creationists who live in the US. A survey of students in biology found that half did not believe in evolution. The reasons for this are not clear however, they could be related to religious beliefs or the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country. The KACR has achieved a number of things in the past through lectures and seminar events. It also publishes a bimonthly magazine called Creation and a book. One of them was a textbook on natural science with a creationist stance. This sparked an interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor and minister started teaching Creation Science in one university and it continues to be taught to this day. On August 6 and 7, 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from the world, including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish, and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of over a thousand. KACR members and KACR have also given talks on creation science in prestigious seminaries. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
